The Return of the Blog... Topic: ER and Ovation
Well, here we are. Back again. For my first blog back, I will talk about yesterday, Friday. I volunteered, then went to see ovation.
Volunteering has become a "blast!" I have acquainted with all the people of whom I interviewed for my
ethnography project. Although there are many people who work in the department, whenever I see a person from my "original" team of people, I am always happy. Although I have seen most of those folks already, I only saw Dr. White again yesterday after 2 months. I was kind of fun. His goatee has grown to be more of a beard now. As a visiting doctor from intensive care joked, "he looks to young to be a doctor, right?"
Also, yesterday, I had a taste of "hardcore" medical science. We use computers as the greaseboard, but on one monitor, a web site was displaying instead. Seeing an irregularity from the norm, I walked over. It turned out to be a really great website on radiology where you could go through powerpoints, watch video lectures, get notes, and other stuff, all for free! I clicked on this powerpoint entitled, 23 diagnostics every med school student should know.
Then, a doctor walked over and went through the powerpoint with me. Of course, I didn't know the medical jargon, but the doctor attempted to show me some stuff. It attracted attention from the doctors (probably nostalgia from their medical school days! Or not...) It amazes me what is on the internet today. By the way, it is www.learnradiology.com. It actually inspired me to type in the search terms "ER department". Of course, eventually I had to get back to work.
Afterwards, I went to see ovation. The show was really great, and I am truly amazed at the talent that we have all around us every day. I hung out with a really great friend; I am really glad to have a good friend. Sometimes, I look around and I think about friends. Or I did when ovation was singing “Lean on Me.” I will state for the fact real friends are hard to come by. Look for real friends who will there for you. That’s my anecdote for the day! Oh, and obviously, try and be a real friend to your buddies, too!
To me, I think it is really interesting that a show such as this can bring nostalgia of times that never existed for me. I think nostalgia has to be, then, a feeling of remembering the "good times." Therefore, it is possible to feel emotions of inferred events and joy other people have experienced. That’s the unique thing about us all.
